Geraldine Mother Leads Alabama Rally for Troops
Geraldine native, Carolyn Lare, led a rally in Montgomery for our troops in Iraq. Her tireless work of over 100 hours in organizing promotions in Alabama as well as in other states has made the event known as Operation America Rising possible. The event is one of many throughout the US in over 25 states. The rally in Montgomery was only one of two to be braodcast via webcams to the troops in Iraq. The day was a day to honor those who are serving our country in war and those that have been wounded or have paid the ultimate price of war fighting in Iraq.
Here is an excerpt of the article in The Montgomery Advertiser talking about a Geraldine native we can all be proud of, Carolyn Lare….

——————————————————————— Scores rise to show support for troops By Paul W. Sullivan |
Military policeman Rooster Bratton was riding in a Humvee along one of the main supply routes near Baghdad International Airport in 2004 when his life changed forever.
The vehicle hit a land mine.
Bratton said he doesn’t remember much of what happened after that, but he guesses the vehicle rolled over, which led to his crushed shoulder and neck injuries.
“I don’t remember any of it,” he said Saturday at a rally created to show support for Americans serving overseas. “I thought I was a POW when I woke up in the hospital.”
While he wasn’t a prisoner of war, the Alabaster resident has seen plenty of time inside hospitals since the blast.
His injuries sent him stateside for the start of a string of surgeries that has reached seven. He fears more are on the way.
